D-135 (Sudden Death) Class VI Destroyer

design by Morgan Donovan

NOTES:
Known Sphere Of Operation:  Empire-wide use
Data Reliability:  A for A model, C for B and C model
Major Data Source:  A model in Star Fleet possession, Klingon Sector Intelligence

The D-135 was first introduced in 2265 and quickly established its credentials as a patrol and escort destroyer. Its sturdy hull and powerful shields were paired with six effective distruptors and three torpedo tubes, allowing it to deliver sharp, precise blows to enemy ships. Each D-135 carried a crew of approximately 144, and a platoon of 22 Marines for boarding purposes. A few of these ships are rumored to have been seconded to Imperial Intelligence as mission platforms for special operations.

In 2289 the decision was made to upgrade the D-135 as part of the rapid modernization program to prepare for a new war with the Federation. Forty D-135As were given a major overhaul, replacing the majority of their secondary systems, including a complete tactical systems upgrade. Production of the A model was then discontinued and the B model began production. Production of the D-135B was halted in 2293 when it was discontinued along with most new Klingon ship construction following the First Khitomer Accords.

The D-135 would continue to serve well for the next several decades. In 2340, forty-five D-135s remained in service, and were again given an extensive overhaul and upgrading. The D-135C saw extensive escort duty during the Dominion War and is still in limited service. It is expected that these vessels will continue to serve for at least another 10 years before retirement. The D-135 was produced at H’rez at a rate of 2 per year. The class was named for the Klingon ngIm Hegh, or “Sudden Death”.
