NOTES:
One of the most successful Vulcan-Medusan joint design efforts, the Iskatel’ class became a crew favorite due to it’s incredible efficiency of design and effectiveness as a light patrol craft. The primary design was originated on Vulcan, where efficient and capable design were the norm. However, Medusan engineers, studying with Vulcan technicians at the time, were able to intergrate further improvements in design and component layout that soon set the standard for Star Fleet construction across the Federation.

The Mk I, lunched in mid 2273, incorporated improved versions of the M-1 computer, now in it’s third generation. Unique redesigns provided by the Medusans improved cooling and support component placement that allowed for a smaller main computer core and secondary systems. This allowed for a larger, albeit still small, recreation deck. Sensor emplacements were also improved, despite a fairly lengthy debate during original tooling. Vulcan designers had intended to install sophisticated long range sensors that would allow the small vessel to act as a scout or science vessel near hostile areas. Medusan designers preferred a more robust shorter ranged system that could survive combat operations and continue to provide accurate Intel and targeting data. In the end, the Galan 26 Sensor system was chosen for it’s known robustness in combat and ease of replacement and repair. While Smith & Smyth Motor Works of Terra had vied to have their propritary version of the FIB-2 installed, Scarbak Propulsion Systems eventually won the contract for their SNATH impulse drive design.
