NOTES:
Known Sphere Of Operation: Romulan Border, Triangle Border
Data Reliability: C
Major Data Source: Klingon Sector Intelligence, Operation Dixie
First scanned by Star Fleet in 2273, the D-106 appears to be an offshoot of the D-9 Seeker class cruiser. Reports indicate that House Alzarek took the design of the exploration cruiser and expanded upon in intending to improve them substantially. The D-106A, the only known model to exist, was actually only slightly superior in overall combat performance to the D-7R, despite being a smaller, lighter vessel.
The D-106 incorporated a “dual hull” design similar to those fielded by the Romulans, with the additional interior volume serving as space for cargo and consumables. The passenger space formerly reserved for exploration team was converted into barracks for a company-sized contingent of Marines. This may have been intended to allow the D-106 to appear to be Romulan in origin, allowing infiltration operations into Romulan space easier. On at least one occasion, a D-106 has been scanned that appeared to have Romulan-designed warp nacelles. However, as this class was traded to the Romulans, it is uncertain if these vessels were used for infiltration or were in fact the Romulan variant of the D-106.
Star Fleet Intelligence believes that the Romulans did place a significant emphasis on tracking these vessels. Later reports showed that the Tal Shiar went as far as placing several agents within House Alzareks’ ranks to determine the capability and uses for the D-106.
Of the 12 D-106As fielded, 1 was destroyed, 1 was scarpped. 4 were traded to the Romulans, 2 were sold (1 to the Orions and 1 to Private Interests in the Triangle). 2 remain in service to the Alzarek family and 2 are in Reserve Fleets.
The D-106 takes its name from the Klingon SuvwI’ ragh which translates to Warrior’s Ruse.
