One of the larger construction projects undertaken by the IKS, the powerful I-35 was intended to be used to strike heavy blows against the Klingon Empire as well as begin a campaign against the Federation. While the expected war never materialized, the I-35 did prove that the IKS was still a capable entity in itself. Rumors of the I-35 within the Empire helped to increase defections by disillusioned Klingons who still saw the Federation as dishonorable.

Star Fleet Intelligence later learned that the original specifications for the I-35 included the use of some the the Klingon Empires latest technology. While IKS production centers had hoped to quickly replicate these systems, difficulties in finalizing production forced them to use more established systems that they had been copying for years. This appeared to have little to no effect on the final launch vessel, and the I-35 was immediately commissioned.

The first two ships launched, the Restored Honor and Vengeful Honor were both commissioned without an onboard cloaking device. This was, however, rectified the following year and along with the third ship of the class, the Dreadful Honor, were deployed to immediate engage Federation targets of interest. While such attacks were risky, it was felt at the time that these strikes would help destabilize the Empire by angering the Federation. Many believed that the Federation would demand the Empire deal with the IKS. It was hoped that this would force the Empire to send troops and ships into the Triangle, angering the Romulans. Alternately, the Empire might refuse as they were already engaged in several conflicts at that time.

While tensions did indeed rise in 2343 after the IKS lunched several raids on Federation aligned targets, the hoped for political upheaval was quashed in 2344 when the Romulans attacked Narendra III. Commanders throughout the Empire and in the IKS were stunned that the Federation would sacrifice their flagship to defend a Klingon colony. Rather than risk alienating their own ranks, IKS leadership discontinued further attacks on Federation forces.

However, the I-35 remained in production. By 2351, ten of these ships had been produced, replacing older IKS vessels that could no longer be repaired. Despite the events at Narendra, many in the IKS continued to feel that the Alliance with the Federation should be ended, and new attacks on Federation space quickly ensued. The I-35 continued to serve until the late 2370 when the Empire eventually forces the repatriation of the IKS.

Of the 10 I-35s built, 2 have been destroyed, 1 was captured by Star Fleet, 2 are listed as missing and believed to have fled the IKS, 1 was scrapped and 1 was sold to private interest in the Triangle. 3 were eventually sold to ranking families in the Empire.
