Design Notes: The Advance class is listed in Ships of the Star Fleet-Volume One/Revised by Calon Riel and Mastercom Data Center. It is mentioned in a line that states “plans to supplement the current through-deck cruiser force with an additional 12 ships of the Advance (CD 1981) design have been shelved.” That seems to indicate that the Advance class is a type of through-deck cruiser that would be in line with other general designs from that publication. Unfortunately, many ships listed in that product never saw the light of day.
An excellent design by Kelvin0514 was indeed based on Todd Gunther and Jackill’s designs seemed to fit the bill. While I’m not a huge fan of this kind of kit bashing, I felt this was the quickest and easiest way to create something that would really have the proper feel.
