The Star Hawk class in one of the few classes of ship that is named after those who used it rather than the first ship that was built. Officially designated as the Surishana class, the Star Hawk destroyer is famous/infamous for tis use by Orion mercenaries during the Pirate Wars that raged throughout the Triangle between 2299 and 2306.
The Star Hawk was not an overly powerful destroyer for its time, and was considered somewhat slow with it’s top speed of Warp 8. It was reasonably well armed with its five disruptors and three torpedo launchers. It was also considered agile for its size and moderately well defended.
The Orion originally built more than 40 Star Hawk class destroyers before ending production in 2337. Many have changed hands but are still in service. Of the 13 ships that served direction in the Pirate Wars, however, only the Blackhawk is said to still be in service.
