Lenexa Class V Medium Freighter

from FASA Star Trek© Role Playing Game – Trader Captains and Merchant Princes (1st Edition)

NOTES:
Designed as a medium freight carrier, the Lenexa class was designed to carry liquids or solid bulk materials, or small cargos in specialized containers. These containers attached to the “spine” at each of two hardpoints per container. Each hardpoint is 5 meters x 5 meters, and contained an access hatch. The ship had 8 overall decks with the connector section was on normal deck sandwiched between two smaller decks that carried pipes, electrical conduits and other support systems. The engineering section was directly below and to the aft of the warp engine attachment points.

The Lenexa proved to be an extremely popular design due in part to its usually large crew quarters and support facilities. Five passenger suites also made the Lenexa a popular choice for those who wished to accompany valuable cargoes. However, the Lenexa had no weapons, making it unsuitable for operations near conflict zones or in areas where pirates were known to operate. The Lenexa was popular with numerous corporations thanks to it’s extensive automation. With is small crew of 9, the Lenexa was far more cost effective than other designs and considered more capable than fully automated robotic vessels.

Production of the Lenexa was finally halted at the end of 2282. Many of these ships remained in operation well into the 2330s with 18 Mks still in operation today. 5 have been destroyed, 3 are know to have been captured and 1 is reported missing. 2 were scrapped after being damaged. To date, 81 have been decommissioned and scrapped for parts and materials. Several of these ships are known to be available on the open market; however, the age of these ships would most likely require a significant overhaul.
