NOTES: Known Sphere Of Operation: Empire-wide use Data Reliability: C for all models Major Data Source: Klingon Sector Intelligence
Five models of this destroyer have been produced. During it’s original production run, only twelve D-14Bs were equipped with the KCB cloaking device. Later models would all see the inclusion of this vital piece of equipment, making the single engine D-14 difficult to detect, even at close range. The class name, from the Klingon desta kar, refers to a predator on the planet Nogunda; this creature immobilizes its prey by injecting a paralyzing agent through its stinger.
Of the 377 D-14s built, 183 Es remain in active service; 20 As, 1 B, 22 Cs, 16 Ds and 61 Es have been destroyed; 2 As, 1 B, 3 Cs, 2 Ds and 4 Es have been listed as missing; and 1 B has been traded to the Romulans and 15 Cs have been traded to the Sona; 1 A has been sold to the Orions, 2 Bs have been sold to private interests in the Triangle, 5 Cs have been sold to the Naussicans, and 5 Cs have been sold to private interests in the Coreward area. The D-14 was produced at Taamar, H’renn, and Fonawl. The maximum combined annual rate was 20 of each type.
