Fielded shortly after the signing of the first Khitomer Accords, the IKS’s attempted to take advantage of the sudden mothballing and sell-off of much of the Klingon fleet after the destruction of Praxis. With a massive influx of Klingons disillusioned with the peace treaty came an incredible boon of ships and components that the IKS still desperately needed. Intermediaries quickly took advantage of the situations, selling and obtaining even more components from within the Empire. Clandestine raids and black-market purchases allowed the IKS to improve its inventory and once again field new vessels for it’s ever increasing navy.

One such vessel was the I-29, a typical raiding vessel based on the D-7. The I-29 had and excellent powerplant coupled to the KWE-3 warp drive. Designers collaborated with shipwrights from New New Aberdeen to ensure that their KWE-3 could maintain it’s maximum speed far longer than typical Klingon ships. The IKS was also able to obtain and install the KCC cloaking device aboard the I-29, making it difficult to spot in crowded space lanes.

The I-29 was fielded with a standard crew of 291 with only a handful of redundant positions. This left sufficient space to include 110 ground troops who did not require hypothermia capsules, making the I-29 popular with Marine personnel.

While the I-29 was popular, it shared a significant number of components with other vessels being built by the IKS. By 2302, production of the I-29 had ended in favor of other designs. None the less, the I-29 remained in service until the repatriation of the IKS.

Of the 12 vessels launched, 1 was destroyed, 2 are listed as missing (both believed to have fled the IKS when the repatriation took place), 8 were given to ranking families in the empire and 1 was sold to New New Aberdeen where it was upgraded and is still in service.

The class derives it’s name from the Klingon saying: “a thousand throats my be cut in one night by a running man…”
