NOTES:
The Nightwing’s Revenge remained in active service with the IKS primarily out out of sheer willpower of her crew and captain, rather than any real strength or need. Originally christened the Warbow of Punishment, the D-4E served with little distinction or glory for over two years. In late 2253, the Punishment finally saw action and distinguished her self while battling Romulans. However, her primary power system and both warp nacelles were damaged. After putting in for repairs, the Punishment was not fully repaired due to the needs of the Empire along the Federation border. Over the next five years, the Punishment was damaged again and again, but saw little in repairs or replacement systems. By 2258, the Punishment was scheduled to have her damaged weapons replaced. However, she was again assigned a patrol without the completion of the repairs. Shortly after setting off, the ships captain was contact by the IKS and with full support of the ships crew, the Punishment departed Klingon space to join the IKS.

Shortly before leaving Klingon space, Captain Krisk quietly cashed in a small fortune and contact a Frengi arms dealer operating in the Triangle. Before even arriving in IKS space, Krisk has secured a new set of warp coils and the associated power system to go along with it. Unfortunately for Krisk, it also required a replacement of the primary computer. While some felt that this would become a problem in the future, Krisk’s willingness to use his own funds rather than the scant resources of the fledgling IKS endeared him to the IKS high command.

Repairs and upgrades proved problematic, with the ship having to be sent to three different Orion shipyards to complete the upgrades. In later 2259, with Krisk’s fortune exhausted, the Nightwing’s Revenge was finally launched and immediately put to work to help secure additional resources for the IKS.

The Nightwing’s Revenge continued operations through 2269, serving as a raiding vessel, long range scout and border patrol vessel. Several engagements brought new glory to Krisk and his crew. Hiring out as merchant protection proved to be the most profitable for the Nightwing’s Revenge, with Krisk once again amassing a small fortune. However, in mid-2269, Krisk’s fortunes would run out. While on patrol near Baker’s Dozen, Krisk detected a Federation frigate on it’s way to Hoot. Despite strict orders not to engage Federation flagged vessels, Krisk challenged the frigate and quickly moved in to attack. In the opening salvo, the Nightwing’s Revenge lost her primary torpedo and found herself in a loosing battle with the Federation ship. Realizing that Krisk had significantly overstepped his authority and was on his way to getting the Nightwing’s Revenge destroyed, and possible involving the Federation in a conflict with the IKS, Krisk’s first officer, Kovtez killed him and took command of the Nightwing’s Revenge, choosing to run. The Federation vessel did not peruse and the Nightwing’s Revenge returned to IKS space.

With shipyards still not finished, Kovtez realized he would once again have to turn to the Orions to get the Nightwing’s Revenge repaired or risk the vessel being declared inoperable and mothballed, an ever increasing fate for more and more IKS vessels. In later 2270, the Nightwing’s Revenge was again relaunched.

In early 2297, the IKS was able to finish several production facilities and begin manufacturing Klingon equipment and parts in earnest. Kovtez, now an old man, handed the torch of the ship to he middle child, K’tvlisok, who immediately put in a request to improve the Nightwing’s Revenge. Though the vessel was older, it remained effective and Kovtez’s amassed influence allowed the ships to move to the front of the line for upgrades. K’tvlisok secured an improved Orion OP-1 torpedo which was installed along with a newly manufactured KIE-3 impulse drive. The Nightwing’s Revenge continued serving until it was again earmarked for upgrade in 2309.

While some in the IKS chain of command insisted that the Nightwing’s Revenge was simply too old to be retrofitted, the slow production of native designs and the frustrating need to continue using Orion, Naussicaan and Ferengi equipment meant that operational vessels, how ever old, would still be used as often as possible. By 2310, the Nightwing’s Revenge had her primary disruptors refit to KD-6’s and her torpedo retrofit to the KP-4 system. A newly produced copy of the KSG shield was also installed, giving the Nightwing’s Revenge excellent power reserves and defense capability.

The Nightwing’s Revenge would go on to serve with the IKS until 2338, when she was badly damaged in a battle with Orion pirates. The ship proved far too difficult for even the most optimistic engineers to repair and the ship was mothballed, eventually being scavenged for parts.
