NOTES:
Known Sphere Of Operation:  Empire-wide use
Data Reliability:  A for all models.
Major Data Source:  A & B models in Star Fleet possession

The W-1 is one of the most basic and prolific light shuttlecraft ever constructed. Considered sturdy for it’s size, the W-1 is lightly armed, although underpowered and rarely able to fully apply it’s disruptors. Despite this, the W-1 can defend it self when needed. The vessel can be flown with a single pilot, but requires two pilots for effectively use it’s weapon. The shuttle has room for 5 to 6 individuals comfortably, but can support up to 12 personnel for shot hops or shuttling between a planets surface and a ship in orbit.

The B model saw an increase in the overall speed and power of the W-1 but reduced the maneuverability. The B model can maintain it’s emergency warp speed for far longer than the A model, but it more difficult to maintain in the field.

Over 20,000 of these small shuttlecraft have been fielded within and outside the Klingon Empire. Exact records are no longer considered accurate, but estimates are that 491 As and 217 Bs have been destroyed. 176 As and 88 Bs have been captured. 461 As and 268 Bs have been scrapped. 71 As and 107 Bs are officially listed as missing, however, many are believed to have been taken by dissidents over the years. 8000 As and 4100 Bs have been sold to a wide variety of individuals and governments. 385 Bs have been traded. 51 As and 215 Bs are in reserve fleets. 5,650 As and 950 Bs are in service to ranking families of the Empire. Every major and minor shipyard produced W-1s at some point or another. Maximum combined production was 450. Production was eventually halted some time after 2284. The W-1 was officially retired in 2355. Despite it’s age, many of these shuttles can still be found for sale in various states of repair.

The class is named for the Klingon ghItlh in reference to it’s function.
