NOTES:
The Alexia class is considered an excellent light cruiser class who’s main design advantage was ease of repair. Completed in 2307, the Alexia incorporated a specially armored warp nacelle that allowed the use of multiple sensor systems without the loss of signal associated with standard warp drives at high warp. Like other single nacelle designs, the Alexis could gather and interpret data minutes and even hours before other similar sized vessels.
The Alexia was originally intended to be a dual nacelle Andorian design, but was later re-engineered to fulfill it’s light cruiser role. A second round of design changes resulted in the mounting of two medium impulse drives, rather than the traditional single aft mount. While this did increase the fuel consumption and crew compliment, the roomy Alexia class easily handle the change. Another unique internal design feature was two large research bays mounted on the lower decks of the primary hull. Each bay had ten dedicated research labs and direct access to either the port or starboard sensor pallets. A third larger bay was mounted in the center of the secondary hull. This bay was designed to house equipment that would require direct plasma energy. This design made the Alexia popular with planetologists, who’s experiments often required extra power to ensure accuracy.
The Alexia was also designed as a capable combat platform. Armed with standard FH-11’s, the main armament was supplemented with shorter ranged yet more powerful FH-14’s. Two torpedo launchers on the secondary hull rounded the main offensive complement.
Nearly all of the Alexia class remain in active service, already having lived well beyond their 20 year expected lifespan. There is talk of significant automation and crew reduction, with possible upgrade to a more powerful offensive and defensive suite. Of the original 11 Mk Is produced, 10 are in active service. One was scrapped after suffering combat damage. The Alexia was produced at Salazaar.
