The Immolator was one of several battlecruisers that originally participated in the attempted coup that would later give rise to the IKS. Like many of those vessels, the Immolator, originally christened the IKV Tormenter, saw significant damage during the coup, including the loss of three of her four disruptors as well as her primary shields. Upon arrival in the Triangle, the Immolator’s damaged weapons were traded to Orion gunrunners for new weapon systems. Repairs that should have taken several weeks took over a year; however, the Immolator was relaunched in late 2256 and immediately dispatched to patrol the fledgling IKS’s territory.
The Immolator, like many IKS vessels, were forced to restrict their operations during the final year of the Four-Year’s War to avoid attracting unwanted attention. None the less, the Immolator and here sister ships were able to conduct operations in the Triangle, securing limited resources from quick-strike raids against a number of worlds embroiled in the wider conflict. With trade at an all time high too and from the Triangle, the IKS was quickly able to refill its coffers.
Following the war and the subsequent increased expansion into the Triangle, the Immolator began military operations against Federation targets as well as limited raids against Romulan targets in the area. In 2272, the Immolator was able to secure additional weapons from the Orions after trading Federation and Romulan trade route information to several prominent Orion families. The Immolator assumed orbit and awaited delivery of the equipment, which did not arrive for nearly 6 months. With much of her crew engaged in settlement or mining operations, the Immolator was nearly placed in “inoperative” status when the equipment finally arrived.
With no proper shipyard to speak of, the installation of the new equipment again took months as opposed to weeks. However, in mid-2274, the Immolator was again sent against the Federation and their allies. The Immolator continued to serve until 2286 when she was slated for an upgrade of here systems. The IKS had finally created sufficient manufacturing facilities to allow the construction of new Imperial based equipment. While some of this manufacturing capability was dedicated to trading with the Orions and independent entities in the Triangle, the Immolator was refit with a larger impulse drive. The primary weapons were standardized to OD-5’s, although this proved problematic on several occasions.
The Immolator would again be drydocked in the newly expanded IKS shipyard in 2302 for a far more extensive refit. The IKS had reached the point where it could manufacture larger amount of native Klingon equipment and immediately upgraded the warp dive, torpedoes, and main beam weapons. It was discovered that the Orion shields, replaced in 2288, could not be replaced without a major over-hall. Although the IKS did have limited shipyard capability, the decision was made to relaunch to Immolator with the weaker shields.
The Immolator would continue to serve with distinction until 2319 when she was destroyed by Federation forces.
