The S-10 <\/em>is believed to be the testbed for many of the design concepts that would go on to be incorporated into ships such as the S-11<\/em> and V-30<\/em>. It is considered an improvement over the S-9<\/em> in terms of combat performance and is much simpler to operate.<\/p>\n

The Type 1 was used along the Gorn and Triangle borders when not used to test equipment and design concepts. Lightly armed and moderately shielded, the S-10 was rarely used in it\u2019s military role, instead being used in it\u2019s exploration and scouting duties. <\/p>\n

The Type 2 was launched sometime in 2274 and is believed to be a more combat oriented variant. The Type 2 was first seen in the Triangle where it was known for out maneuvering and outrunning both Klingons and Orion pirates throughout the region.<\/p>\n

General production of the S-10<\/em> was halted sometime in the 2280s in favor of the more popular S-11<\/em> scout. Reports indicate that 5 or more of these ships are in private hands while the remaining vessels are still in service. The class is named for the Khaiell\u2019aen<\/em>, a beautiful soaring seabird that inhabits the coastal regions of Romulus.
