\nNOTES:<\/strong>
\nDesigned to be a short-ranged high firepower torpedo boat, the Asmodeus<\/em> was developed in conjunction with it\u2019s longer ranged cousin, the Jester<\/em>. Both vessels are so visually similar that they are often considered the same class. However, the mission profiles of each are very different. Where the Jester<\/em> is designed for deep space operations, the Asmodeus<\/em> is designed to remain near protected systems, providing heavier support to other corvettes and in-system monitors.<\/p>\n

The Asmodeus<\/em> if fielded with the FWH-1 warp drive system. Although less maneuverable and slightly slower than other warp drive systems available at the time, the FWH was extremely stable even at it\u2019s emergency speed. The smaller warp core associated with the FWH allowed designers to incorporate additional cooling systems for the main torpedoes, allowing the Asmodeus<\/em> to use the mid-ranged FP-1. The Asmodeus was also equipped with excellent sensors and an enlarged cargo facility, allowing these ships to remain at the edge of a star system for months at a time.<\/p>\n

The Mk I was so stable and so reliable that the Asmodeus would not see a significant design change until 2294. The Mk II would see the introduction of the longer ranged FP-8, giving the Asmodeus\u2019 torpedoes similar range to that of a cruiser or destroyer. An improved recreation deck and security center were also installed providing greater crew comfort and improvements to the vessels interdiction role.<\/p>\n

The Asmodeus<\/em> would continue to serve well into the 2300s, finally being retired in 2319. A total of 52 Asmodeus<\/em> corvettes were fielded over the years, including 42 Mk Is and 10 Mk IIs. 3 Mk Is have been destroyed. 2 Mk Is and 1 Mk II have been scrapped. 5 Mk Is were disarmed and sold to the Andorian government. 2 Mk Is have been sold to the Deltans. 32 Mk Is were converted to Mk IIs. 41 Mk IIs are currently in reserve status.
