The Makin<\/em> Class assault ship can beam down its compliment of 1,800 marines, 9 heavy tanks and 32 light support vehicles in 25 minutes, slightly less rapidly than the Continent<\/em> Class vessel. The Makin<\/em> was produced at the Tellar and Salazaar shipyards, with a combined annual production rate of 14 per year. Of the 68 Makin<\/em> Class ships built, 64 remain in active service, 1 is used by Star Fleet Training Command, 1 has been destroyed, and 1 has been scrapped.

Redesign\/Update Notes:<\/h3>\n

The Makin class is a nifty ship that has a nice look and fits in with the FASA TMP era ships. However – there are a few “errors” that, while not detrimental, seem out of place. If you are interested in the unaltered stats – click here<\/a>. The re-draw (by Brad R. Torgersen) I feel is a better representation of what the Makin should look like. However – the original FASA size of the Makin seems a little small. Since most “assault ships” or landing craft are pretty significant affairs in real life, I agreed with Brad that the size should be up-scaled to be more inline with the graphic. (Remember that a number of the original graphics were little more than quickly cobbled graphics before there were a significant amount of reference books or computers!) Brad original design has a significant number of phaser emplacements, which (for continuity) I’ve removed. Personally – I think the Makin WOULD have all those phasers to better defend it self. I think that to have all the emplacement he drew would make the ships firepower nearly that of a cruiser. Perhaps in the near future we’ll add in a version with those stats.<\/p>\n

One other minor detail is the number of shuttles. It’s just not feasible. FASA did seem to underestimate the number of shuttle the TMP ships had – but for the Makin… There would be many scenarios where the ships troops would need to “shuttle” to the surface – and 2 measly shuttles would take HOURS if not DAYS! I opted to simply add a zero and bump up that number accordingly.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
