The immediate predecessor to the infamous Wanderer<\/em> class, the Zhofvt<\/em> was considered a capable design when it was introduced in late 2270. Generous cargo capacity, a reasonable weapons package, plenty of power and excellent speed all contributed to making the Zhofvt<\/em> an excellent Class V vessel. Initial production was set at three per year, with production intended to ramp up once further orders were placed.<\/p>\n

The introduction of the Wanderer<\/em>, however, derailed the hoped-for windfall of orders. The Wanderer<\/em> had similar overall speed, less power and lower cargo capacity, but was more maneuverable, energy efficient and luxurious when compared to the initial design of the Zhofvt<\/em>. The Wanderer<\/em> also boasted greater firepower and better weapons coverage than the Zhofvt<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In 2282, designers attempted to counter the popularity of the Wanderer<\/em> by introducing the A-2 model Zhofvt<\/em>. This design did not address the overall capabilities of the Zhofvt<\/em> when compared to the Wanderer<\/em>. Although more luxurious than the A-1 model, the A-2 saw little change in the overall capability of the design. Less than a dozen orders were placed.<\/p>\n

By 2297, backers of the Zhofvt<\/em> knew that a significant improvement was necessary and contracted for the B-1 mode. With higher firepower and better defenses than its predecessors, the B-1 was a far more capable raider, but was also far more expensive the purchase and operate. In the end, only 7 were built.
